About Us

HUMANE SOCIETY ACTIVITIES AND PROGRAMS!

•The Humane Society, while a separate entity from the McDonough County Shelter, pay half of the spay/neuter costs for every animal adopted from the local shelter. We also have implemented a low income spay neuter assistance plan to help promote spaying and neutering in McDonough County.

• Annually in July we hold our Dog Wash. This is a wonderfully successful and fun event where dogs of all ages and sizes come to the car wash to not only be bathed, but also to be clipped, groomed and pampered!

• In October, we hold our annual Bark in the Park event! Dignitaries such as the Mayor, WIU President, and Rocky have led the parade. Much fun is always had by the many dogs and their families!  Paws on Parade, Promotional Booths, Photos, Games and Costume Contests are just some of the activities at this event.

• In addition to our community events, our dedicated Board members also work to maintain communication with the County Board and the McDonough County Animal Shelter. We work closely with the Animal Shelter to assist in any way we can, which include attending County meetings, hosting Open House events at the County Animal Shelter and promoting adoption of the animals in need of homes.

•Each year we donate $500 in educational materials to the county libraries, and we also sponsor several classrooms of various grade levels to receive HSUS Kind News.

•Several thousand dollars are allotted every year for our animal emergency Angel Fund to the county veterinarian offices.

• Host booths at local events, such as the annual Earth Day Fair, WIU Home Show, and other community events.

• Last, but of course not least, we are very proud of our Animal Shelter Adoption Posters, which we post throughout the county on a weekly basis in order to assist in the adoption of unwanted animals. This wouldn’t be possible every week of every year without the never-ending dedication of the Poster Committee volunteers and a contribution from a local business with the printing.

• In lieu of a regular December meeting, we have a social dinner meeting open to all members who wish to participate.

Please consider helping to shape the future of the Humane Society of McDonough County for the upcoming years ahead by maintaining a membership and volunteering!
